Honey Trap indie pop, Stoner Rock, Coventry, Fuzzalicious, midlands uk
Honeytrap are a four piece heavy guitar based band that was spawned in the remote coastal wasteland that is Portland, Victoria, Australia. It has a population of only 10,000, it is a workers town and is dominated by sport. Honeytrap's sound is a direct reaction to the town's compulsion to the daily grind. This sound is pure sonic excess in it's most raw and disturbing form. Honeytrap are the cream in your coffee, they are your gold Egyptian Sphinx. The band consists of four males of the human species drawn together (usually under a full moon) through their mutual love of volume, groove and psychedelic effects. Honeytrap existed as an instrumental drinking project before taking the leap forward and recruiting former Damaged vocalist and ex Dread drummer Chris Wallace on voice noise. Damaged were at the forefront of Australian extreme metal throughout the 90's. Just three months after adding a vocalist and performing their first show: (the opening slot on Geelong's premier stoner rock fest "Devils Kitchen") the band went about recording their first release. March 07 brought about the recording of a five track EP “Bulls Can’t Be Choreographed.” The EP was recorded over two days in their jam room in Portland, a deralict granny flat situated behind the Portland cematery. The recording was taken back to Melbourne for the finishing touches. All recording, engineering and general dial navigation was handled by Jason Fuller (BloodDuster). It is hard to pigeonhole the Honeytrap sound as every song varies in sound, length, tuning and dynamics. One comparison has been "it's like listening to Nirvana's Nevermind on some very strong LSD," which suits the band fine. Even in their short existence, Honeytrap have played throughout Victoria with bands such as Dallas Crane, Behind Crimson Eyes, Legends Of Motorsport, My Left Boot, Darkest Heartstrings and Allen Campbell just to name a few. They also secured a slot on RRR radio's respect the rock show in August along side bands such as Uncut White Noise and Tigernauts. In 2007 the creative source of the band, Guitarist Kris and Vocalist Chris were forced to part company with the Drummer and Bassist who played on the "..Bulls" Ep due to professional differences and the time honoured "creative differences". On the upside, this mini demise has recently brought about the addition of Nathan Johnston on drums, Jono Colliver on bass and a relocation to the Geelong/Mebourne area. Honeytrap have just completed the recording of a mini album. The recording was done at Pan studios in Geelong, this time using the recording talents of Sally Laver as well as the demon recording machine that is Jason Fuller on the engineering and production side of things. One again the recording will be taken to Melbourne, mixed by Jason Fuller and mastered by Jason and Paul Fox at Indie Masteres. In 2008 a harder, louder and more venomous Honeytrap have hit the stage and are breathing down the necks of the corporate rock scum. We are looking forward to releasing more music to numb your brain, shake your booty and shred your ears. WARNING Excessive consumption may harm your health
