Smilex are a great Rock 'n' Roll band - plain and fucking simple. Like all your favourite Rock 'N' Roll bands from the past but for here and now, not any fashionable year in the last century: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Riffs, Hooks, Sweat, Blood, Sex, Drugs and Carnage! Since being escorted off site at a rather sedate local commercial radio station summer event in 2002 (their 2nd gig!), Smilex have been up and down the country playing riotous gigs with other rock and roll animals like Forward Russia, The Datsuns, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and Jetplane Landing, earning themselves both an impressive list of injuries and a fantastic reputation as one of the most out & out entertaining live bands on what is affectionately called the toilet circuit.
With three releases on Quickfix Recordings (who brought you Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies and the Half Rabbits debuts) and a split single with tour-buddies The Young Knives on the Hanging Out With The Cool Kids label earning the band some rapturous support (including praise from Drowned In Sound & XFM) and some equally vitriolic criticism too! Now Smilex return with the rock n roll frenzy of brand new single Wet & Wild released as part of the new Akuaba_Records singles club - produced by frontman Lee Christian (The Rock of Travolta, Lapsus Linguae and Meanwhile, Back In Communist Russia) and ably backed by the rabid Babys Got Bored and the self-recorded, uncharacteristically mellow, Still Hanging Around.
Smilex have had verbal abuse and fond comparisons as confusing and disparate as The Stooges, The Pixies, Janes Addiction and even Motley Crue (!!!) so well leave you to make up your own mind but recommend you check out their sado-masochistic stadium power rock peep show-coming soon to a town near you.

“I love this band. They're a good tight punk pop outfit with an added edge of nasty sex appeal. They look the part and most importantly they give it all they've got for every performance.” -BBC Oxford
