Lien video game music, electronica, indie, composer, tomoyo mitani
There is more than one artist with this name: 1. LieN(リアン)is Japanese musical project under CyberConnect2 consisting of 三谷朋世 (Tomoyo Mitani) (vocals) and 福田考代 (Chikayo Fukuda) (composition, lyrics and keyboards). LieN was formed due the production of .hack//G.U. TRILOGY movie and was responsible for the theme song, insert song, and chorus. Since then LieN continues it's musical activity and have participated on soundtracks for .hack//Link , Solatorobo それからCODAへ (Solatorobo: Red the Hunter) and ドットハック セカイの向こうに (.hack//The Movie). Their genre varies from pop, jazz to calssical music. 2. Lien are the kind of band that come along every so often and help reinstall your faith in music. To try and define their music would be futile, part ambient ramblings, part dance, part indie, the list is endless. Film score music would be a better analogy. Like a mixture between the Vangelis score from Blade Runner crossed with the Dust Brothers score for Fight Club. At loud volume this music sucks you in and engrosses you. Formed in 1999 Dan McRae and Dave Ren fell off the back of nineties with a wash of opposing influences. McRae's electronic/punk influences crossed with Ren's Indy/Rock gave way to partnership of experimentation. Their debut album Matica is distinctive in its originality. Showing two minds looking for a direction with the freedom of no boundaries. The debut release in 2002 was finally completed and released under John Howses electronic label Skool Records. 1000 limited edition hand made copies were pressed and distributed via shellshock. Their interest in electronica would be the path the second self titled album was to take. Where tracks such as Mirablau and 12:15am 2010 on the Matica album were experiments in the genera. The second self titled released in 2006 was by far a more intense and focused path. Released under McRae's Thin Recordings, Tracks such as Final Ghost and Order of Nine and White Iris bringing an almost classical emotion to the table. They have chosen to distribute this purely electronically. MP3s available online.
